Factors to Ensure Success
Adequate Remuneration and Incentives
To ensure continuity and comprehensiveness in the delivery of primary care, there must be adequate remuneration and incentives to compensate family physicians. (See module on Remuneration.) Remuneration and incentives should be designed to lead to continuous quality improvement in care. In addition to basic remuneration for clinical services, non-clinical activities should be rewarded to ensure the provision of ongoing high quality patient care. Non-clinical activities include:
- Continuing medical education / professional development
- Practice reviews or outcome analyses
- Team-building exercises
- Research
- Teaching
