Financial Support

A major barrier in the implementation of information technology in family practice has been the amount of financial support available to family physicians. Various provincial constituencies have made provision for this in the implementation of electronic information systems. While support in these constituencies may be both attractive and important, there have been significant difficulties encountered in some locations. It is important that physicians research carefully the amount of financial support available for the acquisition and maintenance of their systems and ensure that the support accurately reflects both the capital and operating costs required for the implementation of electronic information systems.
