Role Identities and Responsibilities
It is important that family physicians recognize that in order for this model of care to be successful, it is both inappropriate and insufficient for physicians or conversely, other healthcare professionals, to simply defer or delegate tasks to one another as if it is acceptable that a blend of interdisciplinary care providers be a substitute for the loss of role identity. Each and every primary care health professional, most importantly family physicians, must be respected and recognized for the value that they bring to the interdisciplinary care team, based on their unique skills and knowledge acquired from their education, training and experience in practice.
